Located right across the street from the Irving Convention Center, The Texican Court is a boutique hotel that blends vintage Texas charm with modern comfort. Think rocking chairs on the porch, string lights over a courtyard, giant yard games, and a pool that glows blue at night. It's the kind of place where you actually want to hang out after your meetings are done.

The Courtyard & Yard Games

This is what sets The Texican apart from every other hotel I've stayed at for business. The central courtyard is this beautiful open space with a manicured green lawn, string lights crisscrossing overhead, and a collection of oversized yard games that are genuinely fun. We're talking a giant Connect Four with the Texican logo branded right on it, a life-sized chess set, and more.

At night, the whole courtyard lights up with this warm, inviting glow. Grab a drink from the restaurant, settle into one of the Adirondack chairs, and you'll forget you're in the middle of a business trip. It's the perfect way to decompress after a long day of sessions or meetings. I've stayed at a lot of hotels, and this is the first one where I actually wanted to spend time in the common areas.

The Rooms

The rooms lean into that vintage Texas aesthetic - think rustic wood accents, warm tones, and decor that actually feels curated rather than mass-produced. But the real standout? Every room comes with a full-size vintage-style fridge. Not a mini-bar, not a tiny cube - a full fridge. It's perfect for stocking up on snacks and drinks for a multi-day conference stay.

Each room also has a covered porch with rocking chairs out front. It gives the whole place a ranch-meets-boutique-hotel vibe that's uniquely Texan. The beds are comfortable, the Wi-Fi is solid, and everything feels clean and well-maintained.

Dining & Restaurant

The Texican has its own on-site restaurant, and it's actually good - not just "hotel restaurant" good. The menu leans into Tex-Mex and Southern flavors, which feels right for the setting. It's a solid option for breakfast before heading to the convention center, or for a casual dinner when you don't feel like venturing out.

That said, if you do want to explore, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The Las Colinas Urban Center area is right there, with everything from Mesa Mezcal to other dining spots you can see from the convention center plaza. You won't go hungry.

Location & Convention Center

The location is the cherry on top. The Irving Convention Center is literally right across the street - you can see it from the hotel. It's a striking, modern building that's impossible to miss. No shuttles, no Ubers, no stress about being late. Just walk across the street and you're there.

The surrounding Las Colinas area has been developing rapidly, with fountains, public art, and a growing collection of restaurants and entertainment options all within walking distance. It's a surprisingly walkable area for Texas, which is a nice bonus when you've been sitting in conference sessions all day.

The Staff

I have to give a shout-out to the staff here. Everyone was genuinely friendly - not the scripted, corporate kind of friendly, but the real Texas hospitality kind. From check-in to the restaurant to just passing someone in the courtyard, the vibe was warm and welcoming. It's a small detail, but it makes a big difference when you're away from home for work.

The Verdict

The Texican Court is one of those hotels that turns a business trip into something you actually look forward to. It's not trying to be a luxury resort - it's something better. It's fun, it's comfortable, it's uniquely Texan, and it's in the perfect spot for anyone attending events at the Irving Convention Center.

Between the yard games, the pool, the full fridge in the room, and the friendly staff, this place has character that most business hotels just don't have. Four stars - and I'd absolutely stay here again.
